The Context

The Context

The Verizon Home App was initially built for broadband users—a simple utility app for setup, support, and account management. As smart home adoption surged, Verizon introduced Home Security… but only through a third-party companion app.

The Problem:
Home Security features were introduced, the experience became fragmented across three disconnected platforms:
1. A native app for discovery
2. A webview for plan upgrades
3. A third-party companion app (Alarm.com) for setup and daily use

This forced users to:
1. Download multiple apps
2. Switch between web and native
3. Navigate mismatched UIs and branding

The result?
1. Drop-offs during setup
2. Confusion and lack of control
3. Broken trust and no habit formation

As a designer, I saw this not just as a technical challenge— but a trust one.

My Role

I led the UX integration of Home Security into the Verizon Home App, designing key flows like Live Video, Saved Clips, and Upsell Moments. This redesign unified a fragmented experience, boosted engagement by 30%, increased plan upgrades by 25%, and became a central feature in Verizon’s smart home strategy—featured in a national campaign.

Built intelligent upsell tiles that respond to a user’s current plan. If on Basic, they’re shown Home Security Plus; if unsubscribed, they’re prompted to explore Basic. Strategically placed after key actions to maximize conversions while keeping the experience seamless and user-first.

When users check their door camera, they’re not just looking for video—they’re seeking reassurance. That guided every pixel of our work.

Reflection

This project taught me that elegant design isn’t just about flow—it’s about trust, translation, and timing. Merging systems, teams, and expectations across platforms was a creative challenge I was excited to lead. And seeing the final product celebrated at scale? That was the cherry on top.
